On 5 February 2010, in response to reporters’ queries on recent media reports that Samdech Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, will be visiting areas along the Thai-Cambodian border in early February and might enter into Thai territory, Ms. Vimon Kidchob, Director-General of the Department of Information and Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated the following:

1. Thailand has been informed by the Cambodian authorities concerned about the upcoming visit of the Cambodian Prime Minister. There have been consultations among the Thai agencies concerned and Thailand’s position had been conveyed to Cambodia.

2. The visit would not have any effect in any way on the legal claims previously made by Thailand over the Thai territory. Such claims still remain valid and Thailand still fully retains all her rights applicable under international law.

3. The Royal Thai Government would send a representative to welcome the Cambodian Prime Minister should he enter into Thai territory.
