Russian Ambassador pays a courtesy call on the Foreign Minister on the Completion of His Mission in Thailand

On 4 February 2010, Mr. Yevgeny Afanasiev, Ambassador of the Russian Federation, paid a courtesy call on Mr. Kasit Piromya, Foreign Minister, on the occasion of his completion of his mission in Thailand.

Foreign Minister Kasit expressed his appreciation to Ambassador Afanasiev for his assistance in the H.M. Queen Sirikit’s state visit to Russia on the celebration of the 110th anniversary of Thai-Russian diplomatic relations in 2007, and also for his determination and enthusiasm to strengthen close and cordial relations between the two countries. Foreign Minister Kasit said he hoped that Ambassador Afanasiev will continue representing the good image of Thailand in Russia despite the completion of his assignment in Thailand.

In addition, both sides exchanged views on promoting the facilitation of the business sector of the two countries, and agreed to push forward the banking issue in the 5th meeting of the Thai-Russian Joint Commission on Bilateral Cooperation to be held in Russia this year. They also agreed to continue enhancing the people-to-people contacts between the two countries.

On this occasion, Foreign Minister Kasit hosted a luncheon in honour of Ambassador Afanasiev and his accompanying party.
