Rotary Centre in Thailand provide financial assistance to Haiti through the Foreign Ministry

On 24 February 2010, Mr. Thianchai Niyom, Mr. Siri Eiamchamroonlarp, Mr. Chairat Prasertlum and Mrs. Waewdao Limlenglert District Governors of Rotary International presented a donation of Baht 1,000,000 to Mr. Kasit Piromya, Minister of Foreign Affairs, at the Foreign Ministry. The contribution is a part of the financial assistance from the Thai private sector to help the victims of earthquake in Haiti. The Foreign Ministry will coordinate with the United Nations (UN) in channeling Thailand’s contributions to help Haiti accordingly.

Foreign Minister Kasit expressed his appreciation towards Rotary Centre in Thailand and elaborated Thailand’s three stages of humanitarian assistance and reconstruction for Haiti, namely 1) emergency relief which included the urgent shipment of 100 tonnes of rice out of the total 20,000 tonnes donated by the Royal Thai Government and the donation of 100,000 USD that had been forwarded to the Royal Thai Embassy in Mexico City to buy necessities such as food and medical supplies 2) the deployment of medical teams to help the affected Haitians and 3) long-term reconstruction of basic infrastructures and assistance in the field of agriculture.
