Thailand and Romania strengthen relationship

On 8 March 2010, Mr. Doru Costea, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Romania paid a courtesy call on Mr. Kasit Piromya, Minister of Foreign Affairs, at the Foreign Ministry, on the occasion of the former’s visit to Thailand.

During the meeting, Mr. Costea expressed his intention to continue strengthening cooperation between Romania and Thailand in various areas, especially trade and investment, which would benefit the two countries during the global economic crisis. Deputy Minister of Romania also stated that the European Union viewed ASEAN as the region of economic importance and it stood ready to discuss various issues of mutual cooperation, including the ASEAN-EU Free Trade Agreement.

Foreign Minister Kasit proposed that the direction of Thai-Romanian bilateral cooperation should focus on major areas such as medicine, biotechnology, education, tourism, agricultural products and food industry. Mr.Costea agreed with the Thai Foreign Minister’s suggestion and expressed Romania’s intention to be a major food producer of Europe and its wish to continue cooperation with Thailand on husbandry.
