Ambassador of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea pays a courtesy call on Foreign Minister Kasit on the occasion of his assumption of office

On 22 March 2010, Mr. An Song Nam, Ambassador of the Democratic People’ s Republic of Korea (DPRK), paid a courtesy call on Mr. Kasit Piromya, Minister of Foreign Affairs, on the occasion of his assumption of office, at the Foreign Ministry. Gist as follows:

The Ambassador affirmed that he would undertake his mission with best effort to enhance cooperation and enhance relations between Thailand and the DPRK. On the occasion of the 35th years of diplomatic relations between the two countries, Ambassador An noted that the two countries could strengthen cooperation in such areas as exchange of high level visits. With regards to cooperation in international arena, the Ambassador expressed his appreciation to the Royal Thai Government in hosting the16th ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) in July 2009. He also briefed the position of the DPRK towards the Korean Peninsula and its domestic situation, and hoped for Thailand’s support on this matter.

On this occasion, Foreign Minister Kasit welcomed Ambssador An` s assumption of office and noted that bilateral relations between the two countries would be strengthened to other areas such as cultural and sports. In addition, the Thai side stands ready to provide medical and agricultural assistance to the DPRK. On the exchange of high level visits, Foreign Minister Kasit mentioned the visit of Vice Foreign Minister Panich Vikitsreth to the DPR last year. As for the international cooperation, Foreign Minister Kasit hoped for peace and security on the Korean Peninsula, including negotiation among parties concerned. In this connection, Foreign Minister Kasit also noted that the DPRK could use the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) as a forum to exchange opinion and promote understanding among participating countries and hoped that the DPRK will participate in the next ARF to be held in Vietnam.
