Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs pays a courtesy call on Foreign Minister

On 25 March 2010, Mr. Dao Viet Trung, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, paid a courtesy call on Mr. Kasit Piromya, Minister of Foreign Affairs, during his official visit to Thailand to attend the first meeting of the Thailand-Vietnam Political Consultation Group (PCG) during 25-26 March 2010 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Deputy Minister Dao stated that the visit aimed at strengthening the bilateral relations as well as mutual development in multilateral arena between the two countries.

Regarding bilateral level, both countries agreed to forge closer cooperation in all aspects, including the expedition of the joint cabinet meeting and supporting the private investment in the other’s territory. As for the multilateral cooperation, Thailand assured Vietnam of its full support to Vietnam’s ASEAN chairmanship this year. Together, they will continuously push the agenda on “Connectivity” forward and seek measures in dealing with the unusually low level of water in Mekong River.

Foreign Minister Kasit reiterated that Thailand has never regarded Vietnam as a competitor because the progress on Vietnam’s development will benefit Thailand as well. Therefore, it is essential for both countries to join hands in finding a proper mechanism for facilitating its cooperation in the future.
