Foreign Ministry promotes ASEAN knowledge to disabled people

On 20 April 2010, Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya presented a financial assistance of 800,000 baht together with the Braille code books and CD regarding the plan to establish the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC) to Ms. Saowalak Thongkuay, Regional Development Officer of the Disabled People’s International Asia-Pacific Region. The contribution will be used to organize seminars on ASEAN Community and the quality of life development of disabled people in Southeast Asia.

The seminars aim to promote the knowledge of ASEAN and its mechanism, and to enhance the disabled people’s awareness about the significance of participation in the ASEAN Community building and the role of ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) in promoting and protecting the rights of people with disability. The Disabled People’s International Asia-Pacific Region plans to organize the seminar in 4 regions of Thailand and invite speakers from the Foreign Ministry and the Social Development and Human Security Ministry to participate in the events.
