On 21 April 2010, a group of students from the southern border provinces paid a courtesy call on Mr. Kasit Piromya, Minister of Foreign Affairs, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The visiting group is currently attending the internship programme for students in southern border provinces organized by the Foreign Ministry during 18 April — 2 May 2010.
Foreign Minister Kasit gave a welcome remarks and briefed the students on the roles and responsibilities of the Foreign Ministry which include being a gateway that connects Thailand with the rest of the world, especially the neighboring countries. This was followed by Q&A session, in particular, about the government’s policy on the southern border provinces.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, by Devawongse Varopakarn Institute of Foreign Affairs, in cooperation with the Passport Office in Yala Province and the Southern Border Provinces Administrative Centre, have been conducting this internship programme for the fifth year. The project aims to promote better understanding of the students about the Foreign Ministry and foreign affairs, and to provide moral support as well as new experiences to the students whose lives have been inflicted by the problem in the area.
