Russian Ambassador pays a courtesy call on Foreign Minister Kasit on the occasion of his assumption of office

On 22 April 2010, Mr. Alexander Mariyasov, Ambassador of the Russian Federation, paid a courtesy call on Mr. Kasit Piromya, Minister of Foreign Affairs, on the occasion of his assumption of office. Gist as follows:

Ambassador Mariyasov said he would undertake his mission with best effort to strengthen the bilateral relations between Thailand and Russia in all areas. On trade and investment cooperation, Ambassador Mariyasov mentioned that the current economic situation in Russia is recovering from the global economic crisis. He appreciated the increasing of Thailand’s investment in Russia, especially in agricultural products. Foreign Minister Kasit expressed his appreciation to the invitation extended to him to visit Russia by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Sergey S. Sobyanin to enhance the bilateral relations between the two countries. In this connection, both sides also discussed the possibility to invite the representatives of Thai public and private sectors to join the trip to explore specific areas of cooperation such as alternative energy and to attend a seminar on financial and banking system to learn and understand ways to do business in Russia.

As for the multilateral relations, Foreign Minister Kasit stated that Thailand attaches great importance of Russia under the framework of ASEAN-Russia which would benefit in promoting better understanding and exchanging of experiences with Russia.
