On 29 April 2010, Mr. Kasit Piromya, Minister of Foreign Affairs, held a cordial meeting with Permanent Representatives of ASEAN and Ambassadors to ASEAN from non-ASEAN Member States from 41 Embassies in Jakarta at the ASEAN Secretariat during his visit to Indonesia. The meeting was also attended by Mr. Manasvi Srisodapol, Permanent Representative of Thailand to ASEAN.
On this occasion, Foreign Minister Kasit briefed the participants on the background, circumstances and context of the current political situation in Thailand. He took this opportunity to reiterate the Royal Thai Government’s determination to avoid using force against the protestors, while also safeguarding the rule of law.
Foreign Minister Kasit also spent time separately with the Permanent Representatives from the 10 ASEAN Member States to share his views on the role of the Committee of Permanent Representatives in the ASEAN Community building process and in coordinating ASEAN’s external relations together with ASEAN Committees in Third Countries and ASEAN capitals.
During both meetings, Foreign Minister Kasit gave time to respond to questions from the participants on the Royal Thai Government’s view and policies.
