Bangladeshi Ambassador Congratulates Thailand on Its Achievement in the United Nations Human Rights Council Membership Election.

On 14 May 2010, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Kazi Imtiaz Hossain, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh to Thailand, paid a courtesy call on Mr. Kasit Piromya, Foreign Minister, on the occasion of his assumption of office in Thailand.

On behalf of Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Ambassador Hossain conveyed her appreciation towards Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn on her latest visit to Bangladesh early this year. He also congratulated Thailand on its latest achievement on being elected as a member of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) for the 2010-2013 term, and hoped that Bangladesh will receive Thailand’s support in running for seats in the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) and in the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). Moreover, he would like to see the development of Thai investment in Bangladesh.

Foreign Minister stated in response that Thailand is determined to promote both countries’ relationship in bilateral and multilateral levels, and appreciated Bangladesh’s firm support for Thailand in the UNHRC election and the Thai presence in the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC). He anticipated that both countries will continue working together on the Rohingya issue, and offered to provide further assistance as Bangladesh may request. On this occasion, to reiterate the Royal Thai Government’s standpoint in dealing with the current political situation, Foreign Minister insisted that the Government abides by the rule of law. In return, Bangladeshi Ambassador expressed his admiration to the Thai Government for its patience and tolerance, and its respect for the human rights in handling the situation.
