World News Thursday May 20, 2010 13:35 —Ministry of Foreign Affairs

With regard to the announcement of the International Joint Civilian-Military Investigation Group on the investigation into the sinking of the South Korean warship on 26 March 2010, Ms. Vimon Kidchob, Director-General of the Department of Information and Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, made the following comments to the press:

1. Thailand is appalled by the result of the International Joint Civilian-Military Investigation Group.

2. We wish to express our grave concern over the unprovoked attack on the South Korean vessel by a North Korean torpedo, causing the loss of 46 lives, which was a clear breach of the UN Charter.

3. We once again deeply regret the loss of lives as a result of the attack.

4. Nonetheless, we remain hopeful that the incident will not derail efforts to bring about peace and stability to the Korean Peninsula, including the early resumption of the Six-Party Talks.
