With regard to the “Address to the Nation” on 24 May 2010 by H.E. Mr. Lee Myung-bak, President of the Republic of Korea, on the result of the investigation into the sinking of the ROKS Cheonan and future measures that would be taken by the Republic of Korea, Miss Vimon Kidchob, Director-General of the Department of Information and Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, made the following comments to the press:

“1. I wish to further my comments on 20 May 2010 on the result of the International Joint Civilian-Military Investigation Group, expressing Thailand’s grave concern on the unprovoked attack on the South Korean vessel by a North Korean torpedo.

2. Thailand remains fully committed to supporting efforts to ensure peace and stability on a denuclearized Korean Peninsula, which is an integral and inseparable part of the East Asian region as a whole. We support the early resumption of the Six-Party Talks, which is the main framework to achieve the goal of peace and stability on a denuclearized Korean Peninsula and encourage the use of other venues, including the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) to complement such efforts.

3. We commend South Korea’s continued commitment to provide humanitarian assistance to infants and children in North Korea.

4. In this regard, we call upon all parties to strictly observe the tenets of the UN Charter and to implement the relevant resolutions of the UN Security Council. We reiterate our hope that this unfortunate incident will not derail efforts to bring about peace and stability to the Korean Peninsula.”
