On June 8, 2010, Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya, as a Special Representative of the Thai Prime Minister, led the Thai delegation to the 3rd Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) in Istanbul, Turkey.
On this occasion, President Nursultan Nazarbayev of Kazakhstan handed over the CICA Chairmanship (2010-2012) to President Abdullah Gul of Turkey. The new Chairman then gave an acceptance speech to the participants of the Summit.
During this Meeting, statements were given by Leaders and Heads of Delegations of the CICA member countries, observer countries, and various international organizations, supporting the constructive interaction and confidence-building measures between countries in Asia. The Leaders who attended the 3rd CICA Summit included Prime Minister Vladimir Putin of Russia, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of Iran, and President Harmid Karzai of Afghanistan.
Foreign Minister Kasit delivered a speech concerning Thailand’s involvement in CICA and the Kingdom’s effort in promoting cooperation and trans-national connectivity. He emphasized the exchange of experiences on confidence building and international negotiations, especially under the ASEAN and ARF frameworks.
Moreover, the Thai Foreign Minister signed the “Convention on the Privileges and Immunities of the Secretariat, Its Personnel and Representatives of Members of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia” and adopted the Declaration of the 3rd Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia entitled “Constructing Cooperative Approach to Interaction and Security in Asia.”
