Foreign Minister meets with EU Ambassadors

On 11 June 2010, Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya met with Mr. David Lipman, Ambassador and Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Thailand, and the EU Ambassadors and representatives to Thailand, at the Foreign Ministry.

The visiting parties congratulated the Royal Thai Government for being elected as one of the members of the United Nations’ Human Rights Council and wished Thailand to successfully fulfill its human rights commitment. They also took this opportunity to enquire about the current development and way forward of Thailand’s politics. The EU side expressed its readiness to support the Thai Government’s effort to bring the situation in the Kingdom back to normalcy, particularly in sharing the EU’s best practices that Thailand can learn and apply with its social context to further develop and reform the political system.

In this regard, Foreign Minister Kasit affirmed the Thai Government’s determination to resolve the problem in line with the democratic principles under the constitutional monarchy system, the rule of law and good governance, and the respect of human rights, which includes participation of all stakeholders in the society.

Both sides also discussed issues regarding the negotiation process of Partnership and Cooperation Agreement between Thailand and the EU (PCA) as well as welcomed the upcoming official visit of the Thai Foreign Minister to the European countries, namely France, Belgium, Austria, and Slovak during 20 — 26 June 2010 to strengthen the bilateral relations and promote the close cooperation between Thailand and the EU.
