On 26 June 2010, Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya concluded his official visit to Europe by chairing the Thai Ambassadors and Consuls-General Meeting in the region. The Meeting was a platform for the participants to exchange views on how to explain the latest development of political situation in Thailand to international community and discussed on how to enhance cooperation between Thailand and the European countries in the areas of science and technology as well as education. The Meeting also discussed ways and means to strengthen cooperation between Thailand and the international organizations in Europe such as International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), and Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
On this occasion, Foreign Minister Kasit reiterated that education on science and technology was an important factor in directing Thailand to be a knowledge-based society and increasing competitiveness in the Kingdom’s manufacturing sector. He emphasized that the government agencies, academic institutes, and private sector should work cohesively, efficiently, and comprehensively to build up network to link applied science with the commercialization, as well as to make benefit from research outcome. He also viewed cooperation in science and technology as a factor to strengthen relations with foreign counterparts in more various dimensions and a channel to show Thailand’s position and readiness to participate in resolving the climate change problem.
The Thai Ambassadors and Consuls-General Meeting in Europe was attended by the Thai Ambassadors, Consuls-General and representatives from more than 15 Thai Missions in Europe, including those in the neighboring region which has progressive in science and technology, such as Israel.
