The Foreign Ministry organizes a study visit on education management in Australia for school administrators from 3 Southern Border Provinces

On 23 July 2010, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Theerakun Niyom, Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, welcomed a group of school administrators from the three Southern Border Provinces who have participated in a study visit on education management in Australia during 17-23 July 2010. This activity was conducted under the “Thai Strategy towards Muslim World Project” of the Foreign Ministry. The visiting party also took this opportunity to brief the Permanent Secretary on the outcome of their study visit.

Throughout the study visit, the group of school administrators had learned Australia’s best practices on the arrangement of various curriculums, namely academic, religious, vocational, and extra-curriculum activities. They also learned the Australian school administration in multicultural society, activities for youth, integration of school activities with community or multi-religious/multicultural society, public service for international community, and interfaith-oriented education. The group visited various public and private agencies concerned in Australia, which is a multicultural country that places high priority on fair education management for students from various races, religions, and cultures.

The Foreign Ministry played an active role in supporting the Royal Thai Government’s policies to resolve problems in the Southern Border Provinces. It underlines the importance of education as a foundation for a long-term solution, and supports the Government’s endeavor to alleviate the tension and promote reconciliation in the area through bonding network among Buddhist and Muslim locals. The Ministry also provided opportunities for the school administrators in the area to see and learn overseas perspectives on education management to be applied for improving the educational system in their communities.
