Following the severe flood situation due to persistent rains since 1 August 2010 in Khyber-Pakhtoonkhwa province in northwestern Pakistan, resulting in at least 1,100 deaths and affecting more than one million people, the international community has been pledging humanitarian aid, both in cash and in kind, to assist the victims. It has been estimated that substantial funds would be required for the relief efforts as well as the rehabilitation and reconstruction process in the affected area.

On behalf of the Royal Thai Government and the people of Thailand, the Prime Minister and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand have sent messages to their Pakistani counterparts extending profound condolences and sympathies to the families of the victims. In addition, as a gesture of goodwill, Thailand will provide an initial humanitarian aid of USD 75,000 in cash for the relief efforts to the affected Pakistanis, which will be handed over to the Government of Pakistan through the Royal Thai Embassy in Islamabad. At the same time, the Royal Thai Embassy in Islamabad is also liaising with the Pakistani authorities regarding further assistance that the latter may need.
