On 5 August 2010, at the Foreign Ministry, Mr. ?inar Aldemir, Turkish Ambassador to Thailand paid a courtesy call on Mr. Kasit Piromya, Minister of Foreign Affairs, on the completion of his assignment to the Kingdom.
The Foreign Minister expressed his appreciation to Ambassador Aldemir’s well understanding on the political situation and progress of the democratization process in Thailand. In addition, both sides also agreed to further promote Thai — Turkish relations in various areas under both bilateral and multilateral frameworks, particularly in the economic aspect to increase trade volume between the two countries. The Joint Committee on Economic and Scientific Cooperation between Thailand and Turkey also plays an important role in enhancing private sectors cooperation as well as people-to-people relations of the two countries.
As for the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA), the Thai Foreign Minister complimented Turkey on its CICA chairmanship for the term 2010 — 2012. In this connection, both sides shared a common view that CICA should serve as a linking mechanism between countries in Central and Southeast Asia. Ambassador Aldemir viewed Thailand as an important member that has been playing a proactive role in CICA. Turkey stands ready to further strengthen the interfaith dialogue in which Turkey has expertise in the matter.
In this connection, both sides also discussed the Thai Foreign Minister’s visit to Turkey in October 2010 to attend the 4th Joint Committee (JC), during which the two countries are expected to sign the Joint Plan of Action (JPA).
