Egypt will increase scholarships for Thai-Muslim Students

On 5 August 2010, Mr. Mohamed Ashraf El Kholy, Ambassador of Egypt to Thailand, paid a courtesy called on Mr. Kasit Piromya, Minister of Foreign Affairs, on the occasion of his completion of assignment.

Ambassador Kholy expressed appreciation to the Thai Foreign Minister and officials of the Foreign Ministry for their continuous support and cooperation. He also praised for the increased collaboration between the two countries, especially in the promotion of Thai-Muslim students to further their education in Egypt. Ambassador Kholy also commended the Thai-Muslim students for their good conduct and competency. The Egyptian side stood ready to increase the scholarships for the Thai-Muslim students. The Ambassador also informed Foreign Minister Kasit that the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt will attend the 3rd Asia — Middle East Dialogue (AMED III) to be held in Thailand in December 2010.

Ambassador Kholy stated that he understood the political situation in Thailand and the measures undertaken by the Royal Thai Government to resolve problems in the Southern Border Provinces. He also expressed his understanding to Thailand’s position towards the issue of Phra Viharn Temple in the World Heritage Committee (WHC).

Foreign Minister Kasit took this opportunity to commend Ambassador Kholy for his determination in strengthening relationship and cooperation between Thailand — Egypt, and reaffirmed that Thailand would enhance the proficiency of Arabic language learning, particularly among Thai-Muslim students before they leave the country to further their education in Egypt. He also appreciated the Egyptian authority in considering to increase the scholarships for the Thai-Muslim students as well as supporting Thailand’s role in the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC).
