On 11 August 2010, at the Foreign Ministry, Mr. Ron Hoffmann, Ambassador of Canada to Thailand, together with Ms. Maryantonett Flumian, President of the Institute on Governance of Canada, Ms. Laura Edgar, Vice President of the Institute on Governance of Canada, and Ms. Jennifer May, Counsellor of the Embassy of Canada, paid a courtesy call on Mr. Kasit Piromya, Minister of Foreign Affairs, to discuss ways and means to promote good governance and institution-building on the matter in Thailand.
Foreign Minister Kasit expressed his appreciation to Ambassador Hoffmann and Ms. Flumian for the proposed
cooperation to promote good governance and institution building in Thailand. He affirmed that Thailand upholds the principle of democracy and stands ready to share its expertise and resources with the Institute on Governance of Canada in order to promote knowledge on good governance among existing independent government agencies in Thailand. He also informed the Canadian side that the Thai Foreign Ministry will organize an activity on globalization and localization on 19 August 2010, to provide a better understanding about good governance at the international level to village and provincial officials.
On this occasion, the Canadian Ambassador thanked Foreign Minister Kasit and the Foreign Ministry’s officials for providing necessary assistance to the two Canadian journalists wounded during the recent political unrest in Bangkok. He also welcomed Canada’s accession to the Treaty of Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC), which Thailand played a significant role on the matter. The said development reflected the close and cordial relationship between the two countries.
