Foreign Minister hosts the Iftar Dinner for the diplomatic corps from Islamic countries and Thai Muslim prominent figures.

In the evening of 13 August 2010, Mr. Kasit Piromya, Minister of Foreign Affairs, together with the Foundation of Islamic Centre of Thailand, co-hosted the Iftar Dinner for the diplomatic corps from Islamic countries in Thailand, Islamic religious leaders, academics, and prominent figures at the Foundation of Islamic Centre of Thailand.

On this occasion, Foreign Minister Kasit stated that he was honored by the warm welcome extended by the Thai Muslim community which enabled him to learn more about various dimensions of the Muslim community in Thailand, and strengthened his role in the international arena as a representative of all groups in the Thai society. Regarding this, throughout his term as the Foreign Minister, he has met with Foreign Ministers from all Islamic countries, and has been committed to promoting Thailand’s role in the Organisation for the Islamic Conference (OIC). Foreign Minister Kasit reiterated that with Islam being a religion of peace, tolerance, and compassion, every Muslim should pass the right message to the younger generation to come so as to promote peace in Thai society.

Iftar Dinner is an evening meal when Muslims break their fast during the Islamic month of Ramadan and has spiritual value to all Muslims. The Thai Prime Minister or Foreign Minister, on behalf of the Royal Thai Government, had previously hosted the Iftar Dinner in 2004, 2005 and 2007 to promote good relations between Muslim communities in Thailand and abroad.
