Australian Businessmen calls on Foreign Minister Kasit

On 17 August 2010, a group of Australian businessmen paid a courtesy call on Mr. Kasit Piromya, Minister of Foreign Affairs, to receive a briefing on investment opportunity in Thailand. The briefing session was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as part of the Ministry’s projects to promote the transfer of production base from Australia to Thailand. Gist as follows:

Foreign Minister Kasit reiterated that the political situation in Thailand has returned to normalcy. The Royal Thai Government has undertaken various measures to resolve the political problems in accordance with the rule of law, transparency and good governance. Moreover, the Government also determines to strengthen the democratization process and takes into full account the people’s benefits which reflected in its policies on various issues.

As for the business environment, the Government has implemented important policies such as the first and second stimulus packages to promote foreign investment and improve the Thai economy. In addition, Thailand is regarded as a strategic center of the region and a linking point among ASEAN member countries. The Kingdom has also played an important role in the “ASEAN Connectivity” in a proactive manner.

The project to promote the transfer of production base from Australia to Thailand is a continuing project from the previous one which was organized in May 2009. The project aimed at regaining confidence in Thai politics, economy, and investment from foreign investors from strategic countries which are important to the Thai economy. The previous project was participated by a group of Australian investors who were interested in Thailand’s Mega Projects and a group of businessmen from various sectors from Queensland, Australia. The participants also had an opportunity to call on administrators from the Thai public and private sectors.
