Foreign Minister meets with President of Club de Madrid

On 19 August 2010, at Foreign Ministry, Mr. Kasit Piromya, Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with Mr. Wim Kok, President of Club de Madrid and Former Prime Minister of the Netherlands, on the occasion of the latter’s visit to Thailand to attend the “Roundtable Discussion on Global Economic Crisis and the Asia-Pacific Region: Sustaining Asian Dynamism in a Post-Crisis World” at the United Nations Conference Centre, Bangkok. The event was jointly organized by the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), the Club de Madrid and the Casa Asia.

Mr. Wim Kok was delighted that the ESCAP organized the said Roundtable Discussion in Thailand and expressed his appreciation for the Royal Thai Government’s support for the event. He added that the roundtable discussion would benefit Thailand and countries in Asia and the Pacific as it provided an opportunity to discuss ways and means on how to strengthen the regional financial architecture.

On this occasion, Foreign Minister Kasit congratulated the ESCAP for choosing Bangkok as venue of the Roundtable Discussion, despite the recent political problem in Thailand. He wished that the Club de Madrid would share democratic experience of countries in Europe with Thailand in order to strengthen the democratization process of the Kingdom.
