Recently, Mr. Santi Bangor, Deputy Secretary-General of NESDB, disclosed progress in translating the Eighth Plan into action by the Office of the NESDB. Now, a budget of baht 5.8 million has been allocated to assist relevant ministries to map out their own action plans.
Up to now, assistance budget of baht 4,390,720 has been given to ten ministries; namely, Labor and Social Welfare, Justice, Industry, Public Health, Education, Commerce, Communications and Transport, Office of the Prime Minister, Agriculture and Cooperatives, and Interior. NESDB also plans to spend baht 600,000 organizing a workshop among the planning units of these ministries so as to formulate an inter-ministerial action plan.
As for the allocation criteria, NESDB will focus mainly on the area-function-partici-pation (AFP) approach, said Mr. Santi. In FY 1997, top priority will be given to the workshops to create common understanding among the planning units towards the holistic planning approach under the Eighth Plan, emphasizing the people-centered development budget assistance will be granted to any activities related to this approach, excluding other routine activities of each ministry.
Mr. Santi lastly said that supports of the Cabinet and the Bureau of the Budget will lead to successful implementation of the Eighth Plan.
