On February 17th, 2000, Mr. Sansern Wongchaum the Secretary General of National Economic and Social Development Board gave a briefing presentation on the role and mission of NESDB and also the current economic and social situation in Thailand to the Bahrain Delegatesled by H.H. Shaikn Salman Bin Dhalifa AL-KHALIFA, special envoy head of Bahrain delegation, who visited Thailand to participate in UNCTADX.
Bahrain delegates showed a strong interest on the formulation process of the Ninth National Economic and Social Development Plan which emphasized the people participation process, collecting opinion from people who come from every part of country as well as bottom up plan. Questions were focussed on the economic recovery, domestics and international policies's reform, the competitiveness and comparative advantages for the foreign investment.
Secretary-general explained that the Thai economy recently showed recovery signs as positive growth of QGDP can be seen in both Investment and Industrial Sector. He further said that Thailand had considered developing several cooperation projects with neighboring countries to help promote foreign investment in Thailand. These projects are the Greater Mekong Sub-Regional Economic Cooperation (GMS) and the Indonesia-Malaysia Thailand Growth Triangle Cooperation (IMT-GT).
