To celebrate the "NESDB 50th Anniversary" 10 bath coin and telephone card were made as the souvenirs.
For the last 50 years, the NESDB has undertaken national economic and social development studies, and advised the Thai Government on general finacial and economic matters. The National Economic Council (NEC) was established in 1950 by Field Marshal Por Pibulsongkhram, The Prime Minister of Thailand with an aim at speedily rehabilitating economic down turn after the end of World War II.
To correct the shortcomings resulting from lack of clear and comprehensive national objectives, the World Bank was requested by the Government to send a mission to Thailand to study the economic situation and conducted a report entitled" Economic Development Project for the Thai Government The Bank recommended the setting up of a central planning agency to make a continuing study of the nation's economy, and to draw up plans for its development. Then the Natonal Economic Development Board (NESDB) was established in 1959. The name was changed to the National Economic and Social Development Board (NESDB) in 1972.
To celebrate for the auspicious occasion of NESDB 50th anniversary, the NESDB planed for several activities and projects, especially the NESDB 50th Anniversary which highlights national developmment planning, result of the past development as well as development prospects. Content of the book included:biography of Praya Suriyanuwat, the first Thailand's economist, NESDB's roles and responsibilities, National Economic and Social Development Plan, the past development, and other interesting stories, namely the interview of former NESDB'S Secretaries-General and vision of leasers working in development field.
Furthermore, the feature on Half Minute with the NESDB was produced to be shown on channel 5 and the NESDB 50th anniversary celebrating event was organized on February 15th, 2000 as to build up ties among former and present NESDB staffs and to promote moral and spirit among staffs working at NESDB.
