National Socia Policy Committe Approves Drug Problem Resolution Guidelines

          On April 10, 2000, the National Socia Policy Committe Meeting No. 1/2000 chaired by Prime Minister Chuan Leekpai approved the guidelines for supporting community to solve frug problem.  In this regard, government officials' attitudes should be redirected to be focused on local community solving public sector, private development organizations and development parties' roles and responsibilities were clearly designated as follows:
1. Public sector and private development organization should be responsible for solving drug problem by persuading community to realize the danger of drug problem.
2. Community should have responsibility in solving drug problem and coordinating with concerned agencies and development parties.
3. Concerned development parties especially family, temple, school, business sector and the press should take their roles in supporting the community works as well as monitoring drug problem resolution results.
The Community agencies network expansion for solving drug problem was set as strategy for supporting community's implementation. The Office of the Narctics Control Board and Ministry of Interior were assigned to coordinate with concerned private development organizations and community agencies to designate objectives concerning community organizations network expansion for drug suppression within 5 years. The community that successfully solved drug problems will be set as the core for network expansion. Furthermore, additional learnign centers will be established and manual of drug problems resolution by community and the plan for supporting and coordination among community organizations will be formulated as well as the budgetmangement to support the community in solving drug problem will be readjusted.
