Mr.Sansern Wongchaum, Secretary-General of NESDB presided over the openting ceremony of the national seminar on "Concept Idea, Policy and Measure Relating to Population in the Ninth Plan" at the Sole Twin Tower, Bangkok.
Secretary-General said that the Ninth National Economic and Social Development Plan holds the principle of "Sufficiency Economy" as the main philosophy for the sustainable development and well being of the Thai people. The common vision proper for the Thai society in the future focuses on the development of the society with quality, wisdom and learning process as well as harmony and mutual benefits.
The population development is important and can link with developmentaspects. As seen from the conferences on the world population, they place the emphasis on the inter-connected population and development. Thailand is the first in ASEAN countries, incorporating population issue into the Third Plan.
Furthermore, during the Ninth Plan formulation, the working group has been set up to determine the direction of population policy along with other plans through the participation of public and private sectors and international agencies. The working group is now considering to formulate the key measures and indexes to promote the well-being and the basic skills for the Thai people.
This seminar aimed at disseminating concept idea and direction of population policy, according to the Ninth Plan, among planners and practitioners from public and private sectors and brain storming to develop the population policy guidelines as well as setting measures and indexes for an effective translation of the plan into action, subject to the limited resources.
