Cabinet agreed to appoint the new National Economic and Social Development Committee (NESDC), on March 23, 1997 to replace the former one whose term was terminated on July 3, 1997. The new committee comprises 10 members, namely;
1) Mr. Sippanondha Ketudat Chairman
2) Mr. Charas Suwanwela Member
3) Mr. Prawase Wasi "
4) Mr. Panas Simasathien "
5) Mr. Paron Israsena "
6) Mr. Ackaratorn Chularatana "
7) Mr. Chalongphob Sussangkarn "
8) Mr. Kasem Snidvongs "
9) Mr. Olarn Chaipravat "
10) Mr. Kosit Panpiemras "
These include five exofficio members, namely Secretary-General of Civil Service, Director-General of the Fiscal Policy, Governor of the Bank of Thailand, and Secretary-General of NESDB as member and secretary of the committee, The appointment has been effective since July 4, 1997.
Its prime duties are, as follows;
1) Analyze national economic and social development policies to guideline national development in short, medium and long term.
2) Consider and recommend development projects of government agencies and public enterprises, as well as joint venture projects to Cabinet for consideration.
3) Recommend suitable economic and social development strategies to Cabinet.
