Prime Minister General Chavalit Youngchaiyudht presided over the 2/1997 meeting of the Government Services Center Commission (GSC) at Government House, recently.
Unanimously approval was granted on main issues, as follows;
1. Feasibility study for location of the GSC in Bangkok Metropolitan Area (BMA) was conducted to lay out criteria to indicate proper GSC locations, and to draft Terms of Reference (TOR) of GSC development. The study would show comparability of appropriate areas for new GSC; recommend suitable management mechanism and budget formalation; upgrade infrastructure network; as well as; map out both short and long term plan for investment and joint venture.
The feasibility study will be implemented in five optional locations, namely, 1) Nakhon Chaisri District, Nakhon Pathom Province, 2) Western area of Chachoengsao Province, 3) Bang Nam Preaw District, Chachoengsao Province, 4) Khao Cha Ngok, Nakhon Nayok Province, 5) Tha Ta Kiap, Chachoaengsao Province. Also included in the study will be recommendation for linkage of infrastructure networks and transportation system among the GSC area and other regions. In this regards, the meeting allocated a budget of Bt 8 million to hire a consulting firm so as to conduct the study within five months.
2. As for the land rent at an official residence units of the Defense Permanent Secretary's Office, the meeting agreed to:
2.1) Cancel the leasing contract, granted to Bang Chak Petroleum Plc., according the Cabinet approval on August 10, 1993.
2.2) The Defense Permanent Secretary's Office was assigned to handle the cancellation.
3. The meeting agreed with the GSC Master Plans and action plans for Songkla-Hat yai zone.
4. Land use plans of government agencies in southern growth center ; Pang Nga, proposed by the sub-committee for selection of GSC locations in BMA, were agreed to prepare for further SSB development, particularly, relocation of provincial GSC for the present provincial administration office to the new office at Tambon Thom Num Put, Muang District, Pang Nga Province. Furthermore, the Fine Art Department was assigned to take part in improvement the former provincial office to be a museum or a cultural center. This is because Pang Nga province is a significant tourist resource of Andaman Sea, so, art and culture, historical buildings and natural resource should be conserved for tourist promotion.
