The Cabinet recently granted approval to four major proposals of the Regional Economic Development Cooperation Committee (REDCC), especially the budget proposal for the sectoral meeting concerning sub- regional economic cooperation between thailand and its neighbors to be hosted by Thailand.
At the 1/1996 meeting of the REDCC, presided over by Deputy Prime Minister Amnuay Viravan, consideration Was on four major issues. The meeting agreed with implementation following the Fifth Tri-Partite Meeting of Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT) Project, during December 19-22, 1995, at Su-ngai Golok, Narathiwat, Southern Thailand. Relevant agencies were assigned to accomplish the studies of details of the programs/projects, categorized by sectors as approved by the joint counterparts, and submit them to the Sixth IMT-GT Meeting in Indonesia.
The REDCC also set a budget proposal for the sectoral meeting under the IMT-GT project, comprising four major sectors, and three major sectors under the Greater Mekong Sub-Regional Economic Cooperation.
Other issues submitted to the Cabinet meeting included an agreement of the member countries concerning commercial navigation along the Mekong River, as well as Thailand's assistance package for its neighbors.
The Cabinet granted approval to the proposals of the REDCC for further implementation.
