Mr. Wirat Wattanasiritham, Secretary-General of NESDB, accompanied by a mission of NESDB executives, officially visited to the Southern Development Centre in order to assign development policies and missions to SDC Director and officials.
Mr. Wirat Wattanasiritham said during the meeting that responsibility and duties of the Southern Development Centre should match with a limited amount of staffs and budget. Responsiblity of each regional development centre of NESDB is not necessarily identical but its role should be responsive to important regional problems. The SDC's missions should be prioritized, given the national development policies, such as the formulation of AFP plan at an area level, etc.
The meeting also made a reservation that the SDC explicitly designate its visions. Focus should be on two main aspects, i.e. the missions assigned by the NESDB's Office, and the missions initiated by the SDC.
As for policy coordination at an area level, the SDC should focus on concrete implementation of the Eighth Plan, starting from the formulation of the AFP plan at an area level.
Regarding coordination with the Southern Border Provinces Administrative Centre (SBPAC), the meeting considered it involved several agencies, such as the Integrated Plan of Operations Centre of the NESDB, the Ministry of Interior, etc. Roles and missions of the SDC in this respect will be clearly set later.
Moreover, the SDC should evaluate and monitor the Southern regional development, according to the guidelines as stated in the Eighth Plan. The NESDB will also promote capability upgrading of the SDC staff, by granting scholarship for further education. The SDC should submit a namelist of promising candidate for the above scholarships.
Concerning budget administration, Mr. Santi Bang-or, Deputy Secretary-General, noted that there is a plan to delegate budget administrative authority to the SDC which will be discussed among relevant parties later.
