Bangkok--25 Apr--Bangkok Expressway and Metro
The Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) and the Bangkok Expressway and Metro Public Company Limited (BEM) announce that the first new train for the MRT Blue Line has arrived at Laem Chabang Port. BEM, as the concessionaire to operate the MRT Blue Line is tasked to prepare the train to support Blue Line Extension service. BEM has purchased 35 additional trains, with delivery of the first train on April 24, 2019. And gradually deliver all 35 trains in February 2020, thus providing a total of 54 Trains for service on the entire Blue Line route.
The new train that arrived at Laem Chabang Port on 24th April 2019 is a new model of the train by Siemens and manufactured from a factory in Vienna, Austria. Model and specifications of the train are modern and made of stainless steel material which are resistant to the environment in Bangkok and possess a lifetime of more than 30 years. The new trains also come with more modern facilities. BEM will conduct activities such as the Dynamic Tests and System Integration Tests at its Test Track at its Depot on Rama IX to ensure that all systems work in harmony with efficiency and safety before trial running in July 2019. The Blue Line Extension project Hua Lamphong – Lak Song section will operate in September 2019 and the Bang Sue – Tha Phra section will operate in March 2020, connecting travel for both the Bangkok and the Thonburi sides. Connecting via Hua Lamphong Station and via Bang Sue Station as through operation will not only increase the convenience for those on the Thonburi side to connect to inner city of Bangkok, but also improve the economic conditions and quality of people life for all Bangkok people."
