KPMG has demonstrated outstanding expertise in tax yet again, receiving 16 accolades from the ITR Asia Pacific Tax Awards 2021, including Tax Litigation and Disputes Firm of the Year and the esteemed Tax Practice Leader of the Year award, for Lewis Lu, Head of Tax & Legal, KPMG Asia Pacific and KPMG China. This is strong recognition of KPMG firms' wide-ranging expertise and outstanding leadership in tax in the region.
ITR is a leading global publication dedicated to the international tax industry, and its awards program recognizes and celebrates the achievements of tax and transfer pricing firms throughout the world. There are three award ceremonies hosted annually, highlighting the most impressive work carried out in the Asia Pacific, Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and Americas regions.
Notable achievements in tax disputes helped KPMG firms to be cited as ITR Tax Litigation and Disputes Firm of the Year in China, Hong Kong (SAR) China, Singapore and Taiwan.
KPMG firms have also paved the way for Transfer Pricing work in the region, securing a landmark bilateral advance pricing agreement (BAPA) in China and establishing a breadth and depth of Transfer Pricing experience in Thailand and Vietnam.
Additionally, the ITR Asia Pacific Tax Awards 2021 Impact Deals of the Year category recognized KPMG firms' work on three projects, which required sophisticated advice to navigate the complex demands of public corporations, high-profile mergers, cross-border transactions, first-of-its-kind business lines, and highly regulated sectors.
ITR Awards research lead John Harrison said of this year's awards: "We have seen a great deal of strong and impactful work by tax practitioners this year - which is even more impressive with having to adapt to new ways of working and helping clients throughout the pandemic. We believe it is of the utmost importance to highlight these achievements."
Lewis Lu, Head of Tax & Legal for KPMG Asia Pacific and KPMG China, and winner of Tax Practice Leader of the Year said: "It is an honor for KPMG firms to be recognized for our commitment to clients, the quality of our teams, and the work we are achieving in the region. We have seen tremendous growth in interest in Transfer Pricing in the region this year, and we are pleased to receive multiple awards for Transfer Pricing Firm of the Year. We will also continue to support our clients to the best of our abilities for all their Tax Litigation and Disputes needs."
Abhisit Pinmaneekul, Head of Tax for KPMG in Thailand said: "We are honored to be recognized for the third time and the second year running as Thailand Transfer Pricing Firm of the Year. Our team of forward-looking economists, tax practitioners and financial analysts strive to work shoulder-to-shoulder with our clients and provide them with end-to-end transfer pricing planning, advisory and implementation. Transfer pricing will be an even more important consideration for companies as the OECD's BEPS 2.0 reforms move quickly. We are ready to help as Thailand determines the policy responses to the measures, and as companies figure out how to navigate these changes."
