Today, Spotify is unveiling the top artists, albums, songs, playlists, and podcasts that defined how more than 381 million people around the world listened and discovered audio in 2021.
If 2020 was the year that flipped the world on its head, 2021 was the year that we got used to seeing things upside down, where Thais expanded their boundaries in discovering new audio content that makes each of them unique. Spotify 2021 Wrapped celebrates the millions of quirky and wonderful ways to listen, as well as look back at how audio kept listeners discovering new favorites - while creators soundtracked the world around us.
Thai artists were out in force in 2021, with their fan bases' listening habits propelling Thai Pop to become the country's No. 1 Music Genre, ahead of K-Pop.
Homegrown rising Thai Pop Rock star, Three Man Down, is again topping Spotify's Wrapped lists. Their hit "ถ้าเธอรักฉันจริง" is Thailand's top recording this year, followed F.HERO (ft. Txrbo)'s "จำเลยรัก (Defendant Of Love) and Tilly Birds (ft. MILLI)'s "เพื่อนเล่น ไม่เล่นเพื่อน (Just Being Friendly)". Likewise, Three Man Down's This City Won't Be Lonely Anymore topped the country's top album in 2021.
Continuing to be a sonic force in Thailand and beyond, BTS is Thailand's top artist, followed by Three Man Down and Justin Bieber, as well as homegrown artist Billkin in fourth.
Thailand's own LISA from K-Pop girl group BLACKPINK also shines in Spotify Wrapped 2021 as an emerging force in local and global charts with her debut solo album LALISA. Coming in as one of the Top 5 Most Streamed Female Artists in Thailand, her record-breaking singles "LALISA" and "MONEY" charted second and third in Thailand's Most "Hearted" (Saved) Songs, behind "Leave The Door Open" by Bruno Mars, Anderson .Paak, Silk Sonic.
Spotify's EQUAL program, a global initiative to foster gender equity in music, continues to shine a light on local female artists and sees Thai listeners embracing them. Ink Waruntorn's "สายตาหลอกกันไม่ได้ (Eyes don't lie)" leads the way as the Top Streamed Song for EQUAL Thailand's playlist, followed by Earth Partravee's "ห้ามใจไม่อยู่", Ink's "เผลอหรือตั้งใจ" and 4EVE's "วัดปะหล่ะ? (Test Me)".
Thais are also embracing podcasts, which provides an eyes-up, ears-open listening experience. It's an exciting time for the country, where Spotify sees Thai creators taking up the top five most popular podcasts in Thailand this year. คำนี้ดี takes the top spot, followed by wellness podcast วันนี้เป็นยังไงบ้าง, THE STANDARD Podcast, and horror anthology podcast ไปป์เล่าเรื่องผี.
Spotify's users will be able to access their personalized Listener Wrapped experiences with exciting new features, which provides a deep dive into the music and podcasts that defined their year. To help users further commemorate the ways they have embraced the unknown and defined their own "normal", Spotify also released new personalized Wrapped features, including -
- 2021: The Movie - A video montage of your top played songs paired with iconic scenes from cinema in a movie that's all about you.
- Your Audio Aura - A creative mashup of your mood, tempo, liveliness, and even artist/album art to visualize your audio "aura."
- Playing Cards - An interactive data-based game of truth and lie to discover how well you know your own audio habits and challenge a friend.
- Wrapped 2021: Blend - Tapping into the new Blend feature launched this year, see how your 2021 music taste matches up with friends, where you can stream your blended playlist.
