Aberdeen Asset Management (Thailand) Limited, a subsidiary of abrdn plc, is launching the "abrdn Global Innovation Equity Fund" (ABINNO) (the "Fund"), a disruptive, diversified and differentiated fund.
ABINNO invests into the master fund - Aberdeen Standard SICAV I - Global Innovation Equity Fund which invests in innovative businesses of different sizes across the world seeking to improve the quality of our lives, or with a sustainability focus for a greener future.
Mr. Robert Penaloza, Chief Executive Officer of abrdn Thailand, said: "Any investor looking to generate long term returns needs to understand that innovation is a key building block required to improve on any current state. Our ABINNO fund is more than yet another tech-focused fund, this strategy gives Thai investors the opportunity to invest in many varied sectors benefitting from innovative change ranging from industrials, healthcare, consumer goods and consumer services. Investors in the Fund can own some of the world's best companies that focus on improving how we live, how we make, how we save and spend, how we work, and how we play with an eye on a better and sustainable future."
While other innovation funds typically overweight US technological stocks, abrdn prefers to look for innovative companies around the world to provide a diversified portfolio of growth companies. The master fund managers look for "disruptive" companies which could be small companies disrupting big companies or big companies using technologies to disrupt themselves. As of 31st December 2021, mega/large-cap and small/mid-cap companies make up about 60% and 40% of the portfolio respectively. The master fund invests, not only in growing and developing companies but also in companies that have already been profitable and have competitive advantages to be potential market leaders in the industry.
The master fund also prefers companies that place emphasis on environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors as we believe sustainability is the key to driving better long-term outcome.
Active management in such a portfolio is key. The master fund adopts a bottom-up stock selection strategy and invests in 30-50 companies. As of 31st December 2021, only 39% of its portfolio is invested in the US while the remaining is in long-term growth, innovative stocks from other countries.
The master fund will be managed by abrdn's global equities team, benefiting from the extensive global expertise and in-depth local insights of 130+ investment professionals in 14 countries.
ABINNO offers in two share classes, Accumulation share class (ABINNO-A) and Super Savings Fund share class (ABINNO-SSF). Special promotion will be available during the IPO period from 28 February to 11 March, 2022.
