Signify launches

"Signify", the world leader in lighting, launches 3 latest solar cell products under the Philips brand this summer in response to the world's mega-trends in using natural energy to lower carbon emissions and help reduce global warming. These latest products are guaranteed 100% to lower electricity prices by more than 6 times compared to ordinary light bulbs, thus enabling consumers to reduce their electricity bills and enjoy a lower cost of living.

Signify Thailand believes that solar cell products can help Thai people reduce energy consumption sustainably through multiple application usage as the company is familiar with the topography of tropical Thailand and has designed it's products to effectively utilize the sunlight. Signify explored the weaknesses of solar cell products in the market and researched on what consumers look for in a bright, all-night solar cell. As a result, Signify developed solar cell products under the concept "Philips Solar? bright until the morning", and launched the new products. In order to create consumer confidence that the lights will be able to operate until the morning, they comprise of the following confidence-building features:

  • Consumer trusted brand
  • High quality LED beads technology, making it very bright but uses less power
  • LiFePO4 lithium battery, which is safer in high heat temperatures
  • Multi-functional, with various working modes and can be switched off by sensor

The new products are being launched about the same time as the government's adjustment of fuel tarrif (FT) rates when the electricity cost will be increased by 4 satang per unit from May to August. Triggered by worldwide record-high rise of energy prices, it is predicted that the electrity fee will increase in accordance with the world's energy problems. Therefore, the launch of these 3 new solar cell products will be the best approach to help reduce electricity cost for outdoor lighting of buildings. Saving electricity 100% at the installation point will help reduce the electricity cost more than 6 times each year (*comparing from the time the light is changed)
To make a clearer example, Philips compared electricity usage of traditional lights to its new solar cell lamps. For example, they replaced fluorescent street lamps, 2 x 36 watts in size, that were installed along the fence of a house, the road in front, or in the alley, with Philips Solar light street lamps, model BRC10, size 25 watts, and found that electricity costs were reduced by 1,244 baht per year. In another example, a halogen Spotlight, sized 150 watts, installed in an outdoor field, was switched to a Philips solar Floodlight lamp, model BVC80, sized 10 watts. Consequently, electricity costs were reduced by more than 2,529 baht a year. Overall, electricity bills decreased by up to 6 times, which not only saves on electricity bills, but also saves on new wiring costs and new electrical installations.
