OR joins hands to drive the spirit of comradeship in Green Coffee Shop on Earth Day, proudly presenting a coffee shop model that is friendly to the planet, society, community, and the environment with a focus on the new normal consumption trend. It aims to wisely utilize and optimize all resources in order to reduce waste generation and mitigate impacts on the environment with the concept of "Green New Normal".
On April 22, 2022, Mr. Varawut Silpa-archa, the Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, presided over the Declaration of Intent for Cooperation in Green Coffee Shop, which was part of activities held to commemorate Earth Day 2022, with Mr. Somyot Kongprawet, Senior Executive Vice President, Non-Oil Retail Business, PTT Oil and Retail Business Public Company Limited (OR), joining to represent Cafe Amazon, at Areesamphan Meeting Room, 3rd Floor, Department of Environmental Quality Promotion Building, Bangkok.
Mr. Somyot stated that OR has attached great importance to environmental protection in every business process, prioritizing sustainable production and consumption with a goal to achieve Carbon Neutrality by 2030. Moreover, OR always ensures environmentally-sound production and consumption, starting from the initial manufacturing process through to the post-consumer waste management. As being the owner of Cafe Amazon - the world's sixth largest coffee chain, OR chooses to serve its beverages in eco-friendly cups and uses green materials at every branch of Cafe Amazon. Such effort also includes the use of biodegradable cups for hot drinks nationwide, all of which are made from compostable plastic coated paper; straws and cups made from PLA plastic, which can be degraded under the landfill condition within 180 days; and paper bags, instead of plastic ones, for bakery. Furthermore, OR has engaged in upcycling leftover materials discarded by the cafe and its roaster to produce staff uniforms, merchandise, and furniture used in the stores. These activities truly reflect OR's intention to not only do the business, but also take care of society, community, and the environment. Additionally, all the actions taken have further expanded the circular economy model and promoted sustainable, environmentally-friendly products, which resonate with OR's business direction that focuses on creating a healthy environment and its vision "Empowering All Toward Inclusive Growth".
This signing thus marks Cafe Amazon's strong aim to promote the transformation of service that unlocks new normal consumption, taking into account resources optimization, reduction of waste generation, and mitigation of environmental impacts in accordance with the "Green New Normal" concept, and ultimately enables all to move towards eco consumption and sustainable management of natural resources.
