Johnson & Johnson Consumer Health site in Bangkok becomes the latest cohort of the Global Lighthouse Network, recognized by the World Economic Forum

  • The site achieves 47% production and export growth and 20% carbon footprint reduction by embracing 4IR technologies

Johnson & Johnson announced the World Economic Forum (WEF) has recognized Johnson & Johnson Consumer Health site in Bangkok for its successful adoption of Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies to the operations, resulting in the site's leap forward in achieving productivity, efficiency, and sustainability goals.

Johnson & Johnson Consumer Health site in Bangkok has embraced the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) technologies to increase production volume while also reducing its carbon footprint by implementing new solutions including collaborative supply chain control tower, computational fluid dynamics, AI energy optimization and advanced data analytics on logistics.

For instance, the site has replaced a manual inspection process for its LISTERINE(R) filling lines by installing an advanced vision system integrated with an artificial intelligence (AI) module on LISTERINE(R) filling lines enabling differences between normal and defective bottles to be identified automatically. This allows the company to ship the product directly from the line, leading to a 67% reduction of product end-to-end lead time and faster product delivery to customers across Asia Pacific. By adopting 4IR technologies, the site has increased production and exports by 47%, reduced inventory by 25%, cut end-to-end supply chain lead time by 43%, and improved productivity by 42%. At the same time as making these improvements it has been able to optimize its carbon footprint by 20%.

"It is such a remarkable accomplishment, and I am very proud of our Johnson & Johnson Consumer Health site in receiving this Lighthouse designation from the World Economic Forum and be part of the Global Lighthouse Networks members for its use of cutting-edge manufacturing technologies to maximize efficiency, drive growth, augment the workforce, and protect the environment.  Congratulations to our incredible team in Thailand and to everyone who contributed to this prestigious achievement," said Arpaporn Samabhandhu, Managing Director, Thailand & New Territories of Johnson & Johnson.

Johnson & Johnson has undergone a long-term adoption of 4IR technologies to improve operational excellence, build digital workplace and workforces and also sustain the company's long-standing commitment to environmental sustainability.

In addition to achieving recognition from the World Economic Forum (WEF), the Johnson & Johnson Consumer Health site in Bangkok was also named the "2021 Global Best Plant Award" as a result of its advances in 4IR technology implementation.

The World Economic Forum (WEF) also welcomed other two sites to its Global Lighthouse Network - Janssen Sciences Ireland, recognized for its support of regional initiatives for sustainability improvement, and Johnson & Johnson Janssen Latina, for deploying Fourth Industrial Revolution solutions that deliver faster, competitive, and agile launches of new products. This recent recognition has brought the company's total Lighthouse designations to ten from all around the world, the most Lighthouse designations in the world.
