Grandpa Muen's Tea by Tiara WeShare is being offered as a special gift to the APEC delegation, as a token from the people of Thailand at the Third APEC Senior Officials' Meeting (SOM 3) and Related Meetings during 16 - 31 August 2022 at the Shangri-La Hotel in Chiang Mai.
Grandpa Muen's Tea is a strong organic assam black tea produced by Doi Pu Muen Tea Community Enterprise in the high mountains of northern Thailand. The tea is rich in flavor and has energizing health benefits. The community won the Thailand Energy Awards for the achievement of clean energy application for tea production. Tea grown in the high mountains bears a unique taste, with the elevated climate creating what some describe as a heavenly brew. The community integrates the BCG Model and is part of a Carbon Neutral Route under the Green Tourism concept. This was the first tea strain given by King Rama 9 to Grandpa Muen, the leader of Lahu hill tribe. The community's story began with Grandpa Muen's efforts to pioneer tea cultivation and encourage other villagers to join him in moving away from opium farming. Today, Doi Pu Muen remains an enchanting site. Tourists enjoy harvesting tea in the morning, visiting the waterfall, and appreciating the local culture.
Thai tea is enjoyed across the world. Serving tea is a traditional Thai symbol of friendship. In addition, drinking tea is an art to exercise mindfulness by engaging with the five senses: sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch.
