CRC Thaiwatsadu Company Limited a subsidiary of Central Retail Corporation, is continuing to expand its footprint in Thailand's construction material and home decoration retail sector in this year's last quarter. It recently opened the 64th Thaiwatsadu branch in Chiang Rai's Mae Chan district in order to capture customers in the Upper Northern market. The Mae Chan branch is the company's second location in Chiang Rai, and it employs the Blue Format business model to improve accessibility to local communities.
Mr. Suthisarn Chirathivat, Chief Executive Officer of CRC Thaiwatsadu Co., Ltd. under Central Retail, said that the new Blue Format location in Chiang Rai, which is smaller in size but more comprehensive in terms of products and services, focuses on construction products, hardware, and sanitary ware, and is aimed at contractors, entrepreneurs, and SMEs in the area and nearby. It also intends to take advantage of the purchasing power of prospects from neighboring countries.
"The opening of the Mae Chan branch in Chiang Rai is the result of the company realizing the potential and the need for expanding the purchasing power base," said Suthisarn Chirathivat, Chief Executive Officer of CRC Thaiwatsadu Co., Ltd., a home improvement and construction materials unit under Central Retail Corporation (CRC). The new location focuses on small local communities where the real estate and construction industries are expanding."
The Mae Chan branch is the 64th in Thaiwatsadu's retail network and the network's second in Chiang Rai. The Blue Format model, which requires approximately 10,000 square meters of retail space, has already been implemented as a pilot project in Bangkok's Nong Chok District and Chonburi Province's Amata Nakorn Industrial Estate. These concentrate on creating better access to local communities and primarily distribute construction products, hardware, and sanitary ware in response to rising demand from local construction contractors, small business owners, and residents in the area. Moreover, the Blue Format model is all about providing customers with greater convenience.
The Mae Chan branch is in an area with over 57,000 households. It is intended to serve four districts within a 30-kilometer radius, namely Mae Chan District, Mae Fah Luang District, Doi Luang District, and Chiang Saen District. Most people in this area work in agriculture, tourism, SMEs, and startups, all of which are rapidly growing sectors following the country's official reopening. Because of its strategic location, which is 36 kilometers from the Mae Sai checkpoint, it is regarded as an important gateway connecting Thailand's border trade and economy with the countries in the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS), which includes Myanmar and Laos.
It was also discovered in September 2022 that the export value of construction materials such as cement and steel through the Mae Sai customs checkpoint was up to 68 million baht. As a result, the Mae Chan branch responds to the expansion of Thaiwatsadu's business presence in Chiang Rai while also supporting the growth of the cross-border trade economy.
"Riding on the Blue Format model, the Mae Chan branch stands out with an iconic blue building that offers customers a complete range of construction materials, electrical equipment, hardware, hand tools, plumbing, paints, tiles, and sanitary ware, totaling over 20,000 SKUs. The new branch is ready to provide high-quality products to all customers in Chiang Rai and beyond. It also increases the capacity of the existing Chiang Rai branch to serve more customers and capitalize on the purchasing power of consumers in the upper northern region as well as neighboring Mekong River basin countries. Thaiwatsadu now has a larger customer base and a stronger business as a result of the recent expansion," Mr. Suthisarn concluded.
