Allergan Aesthetics unveils 10 global aesthetics trends defining the aesthetics industry of the future

Allergan Aesthetics, the US-based leader in aesthetic medicine products and technology, reveals 10 beauty trends from The Future of Aesthetics report, enabling the company to deliver innovations that make people educated, empowered and confident.

Allergan Aesthetics has unveiled 10 global aesthetic trends that are set to impact and define the future of the aesthetics industry, especially in the next five years. The trends will enable the industry and practitioners to understand customers' needs and expectations in order to offer the products and services that satisfy people who feel that aesthetic products and services will empower them.

The trends presented in "The Future of Aesthetics" global trends report were the findings from a study of the insights of 15 industry leaders across 13 key aesthetics markets. They were substantiated by global social listening data from a series of platforms. The findings were first distributed at the Aesthetic and Anti-ageing Medicine World Congress (AMWC 2022) held earlier in Monaco.

The report was prepared by Allergan Aesthetics, a leading US-based aesthetic company, which develops, manufactures and markets a portfolio of leading aesthetics brands and products, including facial injectables with over 4,000 backup research studies and certified by the US FDA. The company's products, including fillers and body contouring technology are recognized in over 100 countries worldwide. In Thailand, Allergan Aesthetics has a strong footprint and is recognized by leading practitioners. It has more than 1,200 partner aesthetic clinics across the country.

The report was initiated as Allergan Aesthetics viewed that while aesthetic medicine has grown quickly, the COVID-19 pandemic encouraged people to pay more attention to their health and take good care of themselves. This also resulted in many cultural changes.

The report therefore focused on how the culture and behaviours of modern consumers are changing and evolving in response to the market. The findings will support practitioners to better meet changing consumer needs.

Mrs. Rachana Dungkosintr, General Manager, Allergan (Thailand) Co., Ltd, said: "As the aesthetic market leader, Allergan Aesthetics pays high attention to innovation. We have to understand the rapid changes in the market and in people's behaviour and attitudes. This will enable us to deliver the innovations that make people educated, empowered and confident."

"The Future of Aesthetics" global trends report identified four key themes driving consumer behaviour change today: Beauty Empowerment, Aesthetic Literacy, Destigmatized Treatments and a desire to move Back to Nature.

"From our experience and the findings in the report, Allegan Aesthetics can see that most customers have high aesthetic literacy, meaning that they search for and study by themselves more about aesthetic medicine, products and services. They care more about the environment. They are more open and more accepting of non-surgical aesthetic treatments. For example, our research found that compared to five years ago, 80% of consumers today are open to body treatment and 81% are fine with facial treatments. Such findings confirmed that we have to come up with innovative products and technology that will drive aesthetic medicine and address all aspects of consumer need. Together with these findings, we also discovered 10 interesting trends," said Rachana.

The 10 aesthetic trends that will likely drive medical aesthetics practice in the coming 5 years are:

  • Diverse Individuality: People of all ethnicities are seeking out aesthetic treatments, and want to see themselves reflected and represented
  • The New Masculine: Male aesthetics are evolving across a broader spectrum of possibility. In the future, men will express more freedom of choice when it comes to how they look
  • Gender Inclusive Beauty: Beauty is ditching the gender divide to speak with one voice to all
  • Ephemeral Expression: Beauty is no longer rigidly defined - instead, creativity is coming to the fore
  • Elevated Experiences: Loyal aesthetics consumers expect immersive 360 experiences that deliver engagement at every touchpoint
  • New Body Frontiers: While facial aesthetics have long dominated the market, practitioners the world over are tipping the body as the new frontier for growth and innovation
  • Aesth-Ethics: Aesthetics as a practice and practitioners must be held to a high standard
  • The Digital Lens: A life lived through screens means consumers are constantly confronted with their own image. Coupled with the already pervasive manipulation of photos on social media, how digital communication changes consumers' perception of themselves, and how this relates to aesthetics, is a hot-button issue. Is this digital lens prone to warping reality?
  • Beauty & The Metaverse: Future generations will be virtual natives, seamlessly navigating the physical and digital realms
  • The End of Ageing: Consumers are starting aesthetic treatments earlier to delay signs of ageing, while at the other extreme, science is bringing the possibility of regenerating one's cells closer. Is the end of ageing in sight?
