The Thailand Post introduces EMS JUMBO to fulfill the rising demand for bulky deliveries

Thailand Post has rolled out a new express delivery service, EMS JUMBO, to meet the increasing demand for transporting larger and heavier items, with a maximum weight of up to 200 kilograms. The service is supported by the company's commitment to speedy delivery and outstanding service, available in all areas of the country.

Thailand Post has revealed that the top 10 most frequently delivered larger and heavier items for 2020 - 2022 comprise motorcycles with engine sizes up to 150 CC., that are not big bike shaped, electric motorcycles, and refrigerators not exceeding 12 cubic feet, among others.

Customers can enjoy EMS JUMBO service rates starting from 200-1,800 baht, with a reimbursement package for any losses or damage incurred during delivery. Additional insurance can be purchased for a maximum reimbursement amount of up to 200,000 baht. POST Family members are also eligible for a maximum discount of 15% on shipping from today until March 20, 2023.

Dr. Dhanant Subhadrabandhu, President of Thailand Post, noted that the demand for goods transportation, especially EMS, in Thailand is rising due to intensifying business competition, lifestyle alterations, and technological advancements in service providers that make products reach customers more quickly. In order to meet the requirements, Thailand Post has made efforts to improve EMS as an all-encompassing express delivery option, with the capacity to handle items of different types and sizes. Nowadays, with e-commerce being accessible through multiple platforms, delivery services are no longer limited to parcels.

"Today, there is a trend towards buying larger items such as home furnishings, electrical appliances, fitness equipment, and even kitchen equipment online. This has led to an increase in demand for delivery services for bigger and heavier items," said Dr. Dhanant.

According to Thai Post's statistics, the top 10 types of large and heavy items most commonly delivered between 2020-2022 are items charged by weight range (30-200 kg); motorcycles with an engine size not exceeding 150 CC (not big bike shaped); roll pallet with goods for students and OTOP entrepreneurs; bicycles and foldable bicycles in a box; electric bicycles and electric motorcycles; refrigerators not exceeding 12 cubic feet; motorcycles with engine size over 150 but not exceeding 400 CC (not big bike shaped); battery-powered cars for children; tricycles for people with disabilities and wheelchairs; computers and peripherals; and double tank washing machines as well as top-loading and front-loading types.

Dr. Dhanant also said, "With the current ability of our EMS service, it's always possible to transport too big, too busy, too tough things as well as medication and cold chain products. Therefore, we have employed this concept to introduce our new service to the delivery market. So now, large items may be transported with the EMS JUMBO, which provides service with the premise that even the heaviest items, metaphorically, for example, elephants, can be shipped. It has never been easier to send anything, no matter how heavy or large they are."

Customers can send large or heavy items weighing 30 to 200 kilos and benefit from Thailand Post's fast delivery standards of 2 - 4 days. There are two methods to charge for express delivery services. In the first option, the price is computed based on the actual weight. Starting with the first 30 kilograms, the price is 200 baht or just 6 baht per kilogram. The item's dimensions (width x length x height) must not exceed 600 cm in total. Second, delivery rates for finished products such as electrical appliances start at 200 baht, automobiles at 600 baht, and furniture at 300 baht.

The express delivery service is available across the country, including islands and remote areas in all 77 provinces. There is also reimbursement in the event of loss or damage during delivery, up to 5,000 baht per piece, based on the actual damage worth. Customers can also purchase insurance to receive up to 200,000 baht in additional compensation.

"Thailand Post has always specialized in the delivery of specialty goods or items with a specific form. This may be evident in the hospital's drug delivery service, temperature-controlled delivery through FUZE Post, and even sending in difficult-to-reach places. By providing these services, Thailand Post has gained a competitive advantage in a market where numerous players compete on pricing. Customers today expect express delivery companies to provide differentiation, quality, and comprehensive solutions."

"There are four major trends in this industry. Trends in international freight forwarding services, large cargo transportation services, integrated logistics services, and offering rapid temperature-controlled transportation services for chilled and frozen items, in particular, are expanding and will become business possibilities."

From today until March 20, 2023, Thailand Post provides special privileges for POST Family members, offering up to a 15% discount on such services.
