As part of an active Digital Tourism Campaign, DES and depa is executing a CEO networking activity, an executive gathering stage for Thai and international government-private agencies and tour operators. The activity is designed to create shared knowledge and collaborations among the tourism sub-sectors by leveraging the ThailandCONNEX platform and big data application.
Mr. Chaiwut Thanakmanusorn, Digital Economy and Society (DES) Minister, commented about the present economy that the country's development relies heavily on digital technology for various economic aspects, especially for the tourism sector's post-pandemic period. Travel entrepreneurs need digital technology for the efficacy of their businesses. This is cohesive to the current tourists' behaviors around the world, which shows preferences in using the Online Travel Agents (OTAs) for accommodations, travel access and other holiday activities searches. Therefore, the Ministry of Digital Affairs, led by the Digital Economy Promotion Agency (depa), has launched the Digital Tourism campaign, and is utilizing the ThailandCONNEX platform to encourage tourism business operators to leverage and access the digital technology for their benefits along with unlashing the greater potential for Thai tourism industry.
Asst. Prof. Dr. Nuttapon Nimmanphatcharin, President/CEO, Digital Economy Promotion Agency (depa) also recently announced depa and Travizgo Technology's collaboration to develop ThailandCONNEX, a national tourism platform and intermediary to connect the diverse tourism operators. By applying digital technology and innovation, the project can enhance competitiveness, raise business efficiency, reduce costs, expand market opportunities for Thai tourism operators and widen the domestic and international travel operator data in both online and offline approaches.
The CEO Networking activity does not only help expand cooperations among the tourism operators but also creates awareness in using digital technology application through ThailandCONNEX that features 1) Central National Tourism Platform, a B2B intermediary that enables Thai tourism operators to access to domestic and international travel agency contacts and offer their products and services; 2) Unity Token, a re-development of Blockchain technology, and a creation of Smart Contact to facilitate the operators with digital tools that help increase sales volume, unlash market potential, widen customer-base, stimulate sales and urge repeat-buying; 3) Tourism Data Bank, a central big data storage that provides information about tour operators, products/services and consumer behavior analysis to enable both government and private sectors to effectively set strategies for their products and services development following the real market demands.
"The CEO Networking is an open stage for executives gathering from the government and private agencies to domestic and international tour operators to meet and exchange useful information and insights. It is also an extension of this important cooperation that will lead to more opportunities development in our Thai tourism industry using digital technology and big data. This is a good starting point for applying a full digital technology into the business sector to bring about the transformation of the Thai tourism industry and sustainably drive the steady growth of our country's economy. We expect over 100,000 travel operators to join the ThailandCONNEX to provide at least 200,000 tourism products and services and generate over 120-billion-baht economic value," added depa President/CEO.
