Mr. Somsak Sappakosonkul, General Director of Department of Environmental Quality Promotion, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, stated, "the 'Green Hotel' project operates with Sustainable Development Goals and promotes the efficient use of natural resources. We also prioritize the importance of transferring the main development goals to hotels with high energy consumption. The project was founded in 2013 with a focus on knowledge development and empowerment. This includes promoting the potential of establishments to use energy resources efficiently and have good environmental management to raise the service standards in terms of hygiene and environmental management in line with the situation in the tourism sector. The project also aims to expand the number of servicing established networks to be more environmentally friendly which will lead to sustainable development and promotion of tourism. 594 hotels have passed the evaluation criteria and participated in the project since the beginning. Currently, 262 hotels remain certified, separated into 106 Excellent Class (G Gold) hotels, 83 Very Good Class (G Silver) hotels, and 73 Good Class (G Bronze) hotels.

In 2023, the organization partnered with SWITCH-ASIA and TourLink to elevate practices to international standards by comparing Thailand's criteria to evaluate Green Hotels using Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC), an international metric used to evaluate Green Hotels recognized in the Excellent Class (G Gold). We also received support from private organizations like KTC in providing special privileges in partnership with participating hotels to welcome potential tourists, create unison in all stakeholders to drive operations, and continue to stimulate the growth of the economy for eco-friendly hotel businesses."
