Nestle Ice Cream helps persons with disabilities earn income with an opportunity to sell ice cream using specially designed electric tricycles, supporting a sustainable quality of life

Nestle Ice Cream, under Nestle (Thai) Ltd., is collaborating with the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities under the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security to increase opportunities for people with disabilities to earn a sustainable income. For the "Nestle Ice Cream Electric Tricycles for Persons with Disabilities" program, the design and manufacturing of electric tricycles have been uniquely tailored to meet the individual needs of those with disabilities so they could sell ice cream, marking a first for Thailand.

Ms. Montha Khongkrurphan, Business Executive Officer of the Ice Cream Business at Nestle (Thai) Ltd., said, "Nestle is committed to driving our 'Good for You' and 'Good for the Planet' strategies, while also supporting local communities. Nestle Ice Cream initiated a program in 2020 to produce electric tricycles specially designed for persons with disabilities to sell ice cream, as we are aware of the need to provide them with income opportunities. Our purpose is to increase their income potential with equipment that meets the specific needs of each individual with disabilities, empowering them to support themselves and their families the same way other people can. We believe that everyone, regardless of their circumstances, should have an equal right to employment. This is why Nestle Ice Cream is dedicated to manufacturing electric tricycles that meet the diverse needs of people with disabilities, ensuring they can work conveniently and safely as Nestle ice cream vendors."

The electric tricycle developed by Nestle Ice Cream is specially designed to help people with disabilities fulfil their working potential, as the vehicle addresses their individual challenges of daily living. Design features include a large rearview mirror that enhances visibility to ensure driving safety and reduce the risk of accidents. The tricycle is also simple and easy to operate, with controls tailored for those with mobility challenges. The unique exterior design attracts consumer attention, which helps to increase income. The electric motor makes this tricycle cost-effective, energy-saving, and environmentally friendly, as it does not emit air pollutants. The Nestle Ice Cream Electric Tricycles for Disabilities program reflects the company's commitment to creating a positive impact for Thai society by following environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles.

Over the past four years, Nestle Ice Cream's program has progressively advanced the design and manufacturing of the electric tricycles. As a result, many people with disabilities are now selling Nestle ice cream products across every region of Thailand.

In collaboration with the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities for the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, Nestle Ice Cream invites people with disabilities who are qualified to apply to join the program and build a career, benefitting from inspiring and equal opportunities. Those interested in joining the program and meet the qualifications, including being capable of driving, with normal hearing and vision, and demonstrating a service-oriented attitude, along with being polite, honest, and responsible, can contact the Department of Promotion and Development of Quality of Life for Persons with Disabilities, Division of Promotion of Rights and Welfare of Persons with Disabilities, by calling 02 354 3388, extension 209. Applicants who successfully pass the selection process will become ice cream sellers under the care of the five Nestle tricycle centers in Bangkok: Lak Si Center, Sai Luat Center, Sathupradit Center, Wat Kok Center, and Bang Kradi Center.

Nestle is committed to creating shared value for society in every aspect of its business operations. The company strives to make positive contributions to everyone and the world. This program reinforces Nestle's purpose of unlocking the power of food to enhance quality of life for everyone, today and for generations to come. It also highlights the company's mission of promoting a sustainable and good quality of life for everyone.
