Sustainability is no longer just a trend; it's a fundamental necessity for businesses to make a positive difference in a world facing environmental challenges. Topgolf Megacity has made sustainability one of its top priorities from its very inception, with the introduction of the 'Green Target' Sustainability program structured around five pillars: 'Food and Beverage,' 'Resources,' 'Community,' 'People,' and 'Procurement'.
As an entertainment complex accommodating 2,000 people in one setting, Topgolf Megacity offers unparalleled play, food, and fun for all. Each bay is designed for comfort, catering to groups of up to six players and ensuring an enjoyable experience while maintaining sustainability as a fundamental value at Topgolf. Recognizing the potential impact such a large-scale operation can have on the environment, particularly food waste, the venue implements comprehensive waste management strategies, including achieving zero waste to landfill and setting a new standard for sustainability in the food and entertainment industry. While waste reduction is a crucial aspect, Topgolf also places equal importance on other initiatives, such as renewable energy and social responsibility. Topgolf invested in solar panels to reduce its reliance on non-renewable energy sources, and is committed to fostering positive social outcomes, engaging in community outreach programs as well as supporting local initiatives.
FOOD & BEVERAGE PILLARS
Making Sustainability Delicious, Starting with the Menu
At the heart of Topgolf Megacity's sustainability efforts lies its dedication to revolutionizing the food and beverage industry. The venue prioritizes organic and local ingredients, ensuring that every dish served supports sustainable agriculture practices. With plant-rich dishes accounting for 26.5% of total food sales in 2023, and a goal to increase plant-based dish sales to 30% in 2024, Topgolf recognizes the importance of plant-based diets in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and fostering a more sustainable food system. The introduction of the vegan burger, Plant based Krapaow, white cheese truffle pizza, vegetarian Indian and CaliMex options, crafted with locally sourced plant-based alternatives, exemplifies the commitment to culinary excellence and environmental stewardship.
Partnerships for a Greener Tomorrow
Topgolf proudly partnered with suppliers like Sloane's for ethically sourced pork and local Thai Wagyu beef, Raitong Organics for organic certified rice and Thai heritage rice varieties, PRIDI Cacaofevier for local Thai fair-trade chocolate, Homemade Cheese Co for natural fresh dairy products from local milk, Vision9 Farm for organic Thomas tomatoes, Karo Coffee Roaster for Thai-grown and Bangkok-roasted socially-conscious coffee beans, and Pla Organics for wild-caught fish from smallholder communities. Looking ahead to 2024, Topgolf aims to increase sourcing of local and organic ingredients to a total number of 12 vetted local and responsible suppliers to advance its sustainability goals further.
From Bun to Plate
In constructing Topgolf's iconic cheeseburger, from bun to plate, each ingredient is meticulously chosen to underscore the dedication to sustainability and local partnerships. The brioche bun, freshly baked, is topped with the beef patty, sourced for its ethical standards from locally-sourced Thai Wagyu beef, and is complemented by perfect organic Thomas tomatoes from Topgolf's organic garden. Even the serving plate, made of organic rice husk charcoal powder melamine, shows Topgolf's dedication to sustainability. This cheeseburger showcases how Topgolf blends environmental responsibility into everything they do, ensuring a delicious meal that supports a greener future.
RESOURCES PILLARS
Redefining Plateware with Sustainability in Mind
Topgolf Megacity sets a new standard in sustainability with its innovative approach to plateware. Crafted with a unique design, the plates are not only aesthetically pleasing but also durable, made from melamine to significantly reduce breakage-related waste compared to traditional ceramic or glass plates. However, the commitment to sustainability goes beyond durability. By incorporating 15% organic rice husk charcoal powder into the melamine, Topgolf Megacity not only reduces plastic use but also gives discarded agricultural waste a new purpose. Partnering with Raitong Organics to source rice husk supports sustainable rice production in Thailand, ensuring that every aspect of the plateware aligns with environmental values. Moreover, these plates are the perfect complement to Topgolf's dishes, served with the same organic certified rice sourced from Raitong Organics, offering a complete sustainable dining experience.
Topgolf's Zero Waste Crusade
Embracing the "Zero waste in - Zero waste out" mindset, Topgolf's zero waste to landfill initiative demonstrates the venue's commitment to minimizing environmental impact. Through comprehensive waste separation, food waste management, and strategic recycling partnerships, Topgolf diverted a total of 64.8 tons of waste from landfills, setting a new standard for sustainability in the food and entertainment industry. In 2023 alone, Topgolf diverted 41 tons of wet garbage for animal feed, composted 15 tons into fertilizer, recycled 8.8 tons, and repurposed 10 tons through waste-to-energy initiatives. Topgolf also reduced food waste to 327g per cover and conducted 957 waste audits to maintain its standards. Additionally, through the partnership with SOS Thailand, Topgolf provides 7,600 nutritious meals to those in need.
No! to Plastic Waste
Topgolf Megacity is committed to eliminating single-use plastic waste. Taking a proactive approach, the venue prioritizes strategies to intercept plastic waste before it enters its operations. Topgolf bottles its water onsite using the in-house Nordaq mineral filtration system, thus eliminating the need for plastic or glass bottles. Additionally, drinks are freshly mixed on-site using a post-mix system, avoiding using cans and bottles. Furthermore, Topgolf's 34-tap draft beer setup ensures that all beer is served on tap, significantly reducing waste associated with traditional bottle and can packaging. In 2023, these efforts resulted in avoiding more than 65,000 large bottles of beer, 6,000 water bottles, and 1,400-liter bottles of soft drink.
Eco-Friendly Cleaning Solutions
Embracing a low-chemical operation approach, Topgolf promotes a healthier environment for guests and staff by utilizing aqueous ozone and low-chemical solutions, while minimizing the release of harmful residues and reducing packaging waste. This commitment extends beyond cleanliness?it means avoiding petrochemicals, reducing reliance on oil-based chemicals, and significantly shrinking the carbon footprint.
Water Conservation
Moreover, Topgolf Megacity prioritizes water conservation efforts, significantly decreasing reliance on municipal water for landscaping through recycled water systems, resulting in the saving of an estimated 3,739 cubic meters of water last year- alone.
Solar-Powered and Sustainability-Driven
Topgolf Megacity is not only committed to sustainable food practices but also to renewable energy initiatives. Harnessing the power of solar energy, Topgolf's state-of-the-art solar power system spans over 4,500 square meters and generated an impressive 991,810 kWh of clean energy in 2023 alone. This accounts for 31% of our total energy consumption, equivalent to planting 822 trees or saving 506.37 tons of coal. With an ambitious target to increase solar energy production to cover 35% of annual consumption by 2024. Topgolf is paving the way towards a greener future.
COMMUNITY, PROCUREMENT, AND PEOPLE PILLARS
Beyond its environmental initiatives, Topgolf Megacity is committed to fostering economic opportunities and building strong community relationships through engagement programs and food donations. It prioritizes a sustainable supply chain that supports ethical practices, reduces environmental impact, and benefits the local economy. Additionally, the venue actively supports local entrepreneurship and sources responsibly for organic eggs and sustainable seafood. Moreover, the Topgolf sustainability committee, composed of employees and supported by top management, serves as the superheroes of change, driving positive transformations within the organization and community. Additionally, Topgolf Thailand also received the 'Impact Recognition' award as part of the "AMCHAM Corporate Social Impact Award" 2023, further highlighting its commitment to environmental responsibility while offering a destination where play, food, and fun intersect with sustainable practices.
