The Mid-Autumn Festival, one of the most significant holidays on the Chinese calendar, is traditionally marked by the sharing of mooncakes among family and friends. This year, The Peninsula Bangkok has elevated this tradition by teaming up with Pabaja and the artisans at Ausara Surface to create the 'Moonlit Majesty' mooncake boxes. The 'Moonlit Majesty' boxes, limited to just 150 units, are available for pre-order at THB 6,888 net per box. Profits from the sales will support a scholarship for an art student, fostering the next generation of creative talent.
The Making of 'Moonlit Majesty'
Moonlit Majesty is where traditional craftsmanship meets modern artistry. Embracing the zodiac Year of the Dragon, artist Pabaja has exquisitely captured the majestic creature alongside chrysanthemums, which are symbols of prosperity in many Asian cultures. The collaboration between The Peninsula Bangkok and Ausara Surface has resulted in a masterpiece that reflects the best of both worlds: traditional techniques and contemporary design.
Inspired by traditional woodcutting and Chinese lacquer art, each box features intricate laser-cut designs that bring out the finest details of the dragon and chrysanthemums. These designs are then meticulously handcrafted, filling each laser-cut line with metallic powder to create a stunning moonlit effect.
