The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) reinforces its commitment to drive the potential of family businesses in Thailand, aiming to intensify capabilities and expand opportunities for businesses to access capital market funding. The upcoming event, "The 2nd SET Annual Conference on Family Business: Family Business in the Globalized Asia," will be held on August 1-2 at the Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok. The conference will feature international experts, advisors from leading institutions, and Thai entrepreneurs from various industries sharing their business growth journeys. Other highlights include sharing adaptation strategies to navigate uncertainties and showcasing how they've successfully passed on their businesses and achieved stable growth.
SET Chairman Adjunct Professor Kitipong Urapeepatanapong stated that SET has prioritized and supported driving the ecosystem for Thai family business development. Recognizing these businesses as the cornerstone of the economy, SET's key strategic plan focuses on providing entrepreneurs with knowledge, tools, and various systems to maximize capabilities, professionalize operations, and broaden access to the capital market for funding. Currently, family businesses account for 67 percent of the total listed companies. Almost a decade since 2016, more than 76 percent of newly listed companies have grown from family businesses and such a trend is gaining pace. Meanwhile, SET's new fundraising channel, the LiVEx market, serves as another mechanism for family businesses to expand growth opportunities through the capital market.
Following the success of its inaugural family business seminar in 2023, this year's event, "The 2nd SET Annual Conference on Family Business" under the concept "Family Business in the Globalized Asia," aligns with the needs of today's Thai entrepreneurs in an era where Asia and the world are interconnected economically, socially, and geopolitically. The conference will focus on exchanging ideas and strategies that businesses can practically apply. International experts and advisors from leading institutions, such as Martin Roll, a global family business and family office expert, and Professor Winnie Qian PENG, an academic, consultant, and speaker at international family business conferences, will share case studies of growing family businesses and successful adaptation strategies in Asia.
Additionally, leading executives from various businesses, including Central Group, Amata Corporation pcl, Supara Group & GQ Apparel Co., Ltd., Banpu pcl, Toshiba Thailand Co., Ltd., Aapico Hitech pcl, and Jubilee Enterprise pcl, both founding managers and second and third-generation heirs, will provide insights on family business management. They will emphasize the importance of adapting to changes in all dimensions to ensure successful business succession and stable growth. This year's seminar will also feature workshop sessions, allowing participants to engage in topics of interest and interact closely with speakers.
